No.2 Player in America Commits to Duke nation Over Tennessee, BYU and Georgia…

Another Blue Devil Bound: No. 2 Recruit Mercy Miller Joins Elite Duke Class

DURHAM, NC – June 19, 2024– The Duke Blue Devils continue to stockpile elite talent, securing a commitment today from Mercy Miller, the highly-touted No. 2 ranked player in the nation according to ESPN. The dynamic guard, known for his scoring prowess, athleticism, and versatility, chose Duke over a competitive field that included Tennessee, BYU, and Georgia.

Miller’s decision, announced less than 24 hours after the commitment of No. 3 recruit Patrick McDonough, solidifies Duke’s position with potentially the nation’s top recruiting class. The back-to-back commitments of two top-three players send a clear message about the direction of the program under Head Coach Jon Scheyer.

“⁵its was a process I took very seriously,” Miller said during his commitment announcement. “Each school presented a compelling case, but the vision at Duke, the coaching staff, and the opportunity to play alongside other incredible players is what ultimately won me over.”

The 6’3″ guard, who most recently played at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, is a true offensive threat. His ability to create his own shot, finish through contact, and knock down shots from beyond the arc makes him a nightmare for opposing defenses. Miller also possesses impressive athleticism and court awareness, allowing him to impact the game in multiple ways.

Tennessee, under Rick Barnes, emphasized their proven track record of developing guards and competing at the highest level. BYU, led by Mark Pope, highlighted their unique offensive system and the strong culture within the program. Georgia, coached by Mike White, presented an opportunity for Miller to be a focal point of their offense from day one.

However, the chance to play for a legendary program like Duke and compete for national championships proved to be the deciding factor for Miller. He spoke highly of his relationship with Coach Scheyer and the genuine connection he felt with the entire coaching staff.

“Coach Scheyer and the staff were incredible throughout my recruitment,” Miller stated. “They showed a genuine interest in me as a person and a player. I believe they have the plan and the resources to help me reach my goals.”

Miller’s commitment, combined with McDonough’s, creates a formidable backcourt duo for the Blue Devils in the coming years. Their complementary skill sets – McDonough’s playmaking and shooting, and Miller’s scoring and athleticism – promise to be a potent combination that will be difficult for opponents to contain.

The excitement surrounding Duke basketball is palpable following these commitments. Fans are already envisioning the potential of this incoming class and the impact they will have on the program. Miller’s arrival brings another layer of talent and star power to an already impressive roster.

While Tennessee, BYU, and Georgia will undoubtedly be disappointed, their pursuit of Miller underscores his status as one of the nation’s premier talents.

As Mercy Miller prepares to join the ranks of the Blue Devils, the college basketball world eagerly awaits his collegiate debut. His commitment is a significant statement from Duke and further solidifies their position as a perennial national championship contender. The future is bright in Durham, and Mercy Miller is set to be a major part of it.
