World Darts Championship: Veteran Steve Beaton wins as well, capping his career in 2024, while Michael van Gerwen easily wins.

The World Darts Championship goes until the final on January 3, 2024; we’re back on Wednesday at 12.30pm, live on Sky Sports Darts. Michael van Gerwen easily defeated Keane Barry in his opening match; Steve Beaton also prevailed and declared he will retire next year.

Tuesday night’s 3-0 triumph over Keane Barry gave Michael van Gerwen the ideal start to his World Darts Championship title challenge.

Van Gerwen, last year’s runner-up to Michael Smith, dropped just two legs against the brisk Barry and improved throughout the bout.

The Dutchman was unbeatable in his opponent’s batting average of 98.17 and hit 60% of his doubles.

After the first set, I felt good and thought I could punish him a little bit more, so I’m happy with the closing,” Van Gerwen said to Sky Sports Darts.

“However, I hadn’t finished scoring yet. I was capable of much more. Though I’m a little let down by my score, winning my first game is what matters most.
