The winner of a bowling event at age seven was disqualified for wearing the incorrect pants.

A young bowler who was a champion was robbed of his moment of triumph when he was found to have worn the incorrect pants during the event.

In St. John’s, Newfoundland, Grayson Powell, 7, led his team to victory in a kids bowling event with a score of 171.

However, Grayson’s jeans were not black enough; they were a faded grayish color instead of black, which prevented the kids from picking up their medals.

In a 2,600 word Facebook post, Gord Davis, the president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Youth Bowl Canada (NL YBC), justified his choice.

He said that the athletes’ families had received repeated warnings about the need of dressing appropriately.

Would a parent act in this way? Was the purpose to test if we would notice or get away with it? Composed by Mr. Davis.

“Why are we the bad guys here, and parents broke the rules knowingly, and NL YBC is in the wrong?” he said.

Todd Powell, Graysons’s father, voiced his disapproval of the choice on local media. “Shoeme on them if this is what kids’ sports are about,” he shouted.

On the social media pages of NL YBC, critics contended that kids shouldn’t be punished for such little infractions and that the kids ought to have received a warning while the game was going on instead of after it was over.

Later, the adults resolved their issues, and Mr. Davis apologized.

Mr. Davis remarked, “We both realize that this was blown out of proportion for simple communication problems.”

“We expressed our regret for the choices we had to make and the lack of communication during the first and third games.”

Before the game started, Mr. Davis stated that the tournament director will be notified of any more violations.

In this manner, there are no surprises and every crisis is handled right away. Going forward, he said, “every rule should be followed at all costs.”

But Mr. Davis said that he didn’t want to discourage any kids from bowling and that Grayson’s team will receive a special medal in recognition of their efforts.
