“Wawrinka’s Revelation: Unveiling the Clock on His Tennis Career – How Many Years Left in the Tank?”

In anticipation of the hard-court season, Stan Wawrinka is driven. The Swiss player discussed his short- and long-term goals in an interview with 20 Min. Stan disclosed his actions following his Wimbledon second-round loss to Thomas Fabbiano, saying: “I took some days off to recover.” I have been practicing again for the past 10 plus days. I played tennis and worked on my fitness first. I’m going to Washington on Thursday, and I’ll be returning to the Tour the following week. When asked about the difficulty of accepting defeat against Fabbiano, Wawrinka said, “It was difficult, of course, but I knew where I was, so I could accept it.”

After the knee injury, it took me a long time to get back to where I was. I want to play more tournaments in a row now. For this reason, I’ll be playing in Toronto, Cincinnati, and Washington before to the US Open. It excites me to see what I can do. The 33-year-old will compete in Toronto’s Rogers Cup qualifying. I haven’t done it in a long time, so it will still be unique. But I’m only ranked 201st in the world right now. He explained, “I don’t have any problem with it.” Does he think he’ll get a wild card to the US Open? “No, not at all. Nothing guarantees me anything, even if I win three Grand Slams.

Obviously, though, I hope so. “It was clear to me the first day after surgery that it would take more than a year to fully comeback where I was,” says Wawrinka, not surprised by his delayed recovery. It takes a great deal of endurance. I knew my body and tennis weren’t at their best when I started playing again at the beginning of the year and participated in a few tournaments. I’m not discouraged by my performance over the past few weeks. He concluded by discussing his future, saying, “2018 is a transition year.” I want to continue playing for a few more years. Numerous factors determine whether it will be two, three, four, or five.
