Luka Doncic, who turns 22 this year, downplayed the press’s compliments when Cedric Maxwell made a comparison between him and his former Boston Celtics teammate Larry Bird.

While wearing the No. 33, Bird won the NBA Championship in 1981 and 1984, but Doncic was eager to steer clear of the similarities.

Because of what Larry Bird has accomplished, you cannot compare me to him,” he told ESPN.

“You can’t compare myself to Larry Bird because it will be a long time.

“I just want to keep hooping, have fun playing basketball.”

Speaking to the media following the Dallas Mavericks’ 115-98 victory against the Brooklyn Nets, Slovenian star Doncic also mentioned James Harden’s compliments.

If someone says that about you, it’s incredible, indescribable, Doncic remarked.

“I really appreciate it, he’s an incredible player.”
