According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania and Joe Vardon, guard Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns and forward Kevin Durant are regarded as expected members of the core of USA Basketball for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

If injuries don’t prevent them, Charania and Vardon add that Jayson Tatum, LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Jrue Holiday, and Stephen Curry are all considered.

Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers, who has previously indicated his desire to play for USA Basketball, and Anthony Edwards, the guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves, are also being seriously considered for Paris.

With 48 games played this season, Booker has averaged 27.5 points on 49.6% shooting and 37.1% from long range, 4.6 rebounds, and a career-high seven assists. This is one of his best seasons as a professional.

In contrast, Durant has scored 28 points on 53% of his shots and 42.3% from beyond the arc while also pulling down 6.7 rebounds and dishing out 5.6 assists in 51 games.

Booker and Durant, who both showed interest in representing Team USA in Paris on media day in 2023, were two of the 41 players announced last month as part of the team’s 2024 player pool. Both players had won gold medals.

As members of the USA Basketball team, Booker and Durant won gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The latter pair has previously won in London (2012) and Rio de Janeiro (2016).

The Suns return to action on Thursday at 7 p.m. against the Houston Rockets. Turn on ArizonaSports.com or the Arizona Sports app, 98.7.
