Seven on Seven: impressive stats during the Celtics’ seven-game winning run

Seven on Seven: impressive stats during the Celtics’ seven-game winning run.

After the All-Star break and heading into the playoffs, Boston is at its best.

Give the Los Angeles Clippers credit. Additionally, let’s give the Lakers our due. Following their lopsided victory over the Celtics on the hardwood, both LA clubs have now enjoyed their longest winning streak of seven games.

First, to dispel the qualifier: they haven’t been the fiercest opposition. Although Memphis, Atlanta, Washington, Miami (without Jimmy Butler), Brooklyn twice, and Chicago aren’t exactly the best teams in the NBA, they did not lose a game to boredom or exhaustion given that the victories occurred during the season’s downturn just before the All-Star break. They are 22-1 against under.500 clubs, according to Celtics Stats.

Other stats on the remarkable run the Celtics have had are as follows:

The average for Jayson Tatum is 28-9-7.
For whatever reason, Jayson Tatum has been thrust into the spotlight following the All-Star Game. It’s difficult to disagree with him at this point in the season, even though he believes he is the best player in the league.

Nowadays, becoming the Most Valuable Player means more than just racking up points (he now sits fifth with 1436). Creating offense for your teammates has become as crucial, especially with current candidates like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, and Luka Doncic serving as offensive focal points for their teams. Most Valuable Playmaker might be a more fitting title for this award. Tatum has developed into a superb point forward thus far by utilizing his scoring gravitas to break down defenses, drive and score more, and make passes out of double teams.

42% from the arc’s back
“Fire,” to put it simply. They have continued to lead the NBA in three-point attempts (43.1 per game) and make them at the third-highest percentage (40.7%) over the past seven games.

24 stocks
Derrick White and Jrue Holiday have combined for fifteen thefts, nine blocks, and 24 opponent team possessions destroyed over these seven victories. These plays are energy shifters in addition to being excellent defensive plays.

taking control of the third quarter
When did the team used to collapse after halftime? The Celtics had a -10.8(!) net rating in January and were outscored by 51 points. They are outscoring opponents by almost 27 points per 100 possessions thus far in February. That suggests a more targeted strategy.

7-game advantage in the East
This is important as we approach the last 82 games. With 26 games remaining and a seven-game advantage over the second-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers, they have plenty of time to recover before the playoffs. To put things in perspective, the Cavaliers lead the eighth-seeded Miami Heat by 6.5 games, although that cushion is greater.

With four back-to-back games left in the regular season (plus the arrival of Xavier Tillman Sr.), Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis will have plenty of downtime. But it won’t be simple. The Celtics play 12 of their next 15 games away from TD Garden after returning home for a three-game homestand following their Saturday game in New York.

19.1% net rating
Well, that’s just nuts. Boston will be the best offensive of all time if they can continue to play Mazzulla Ball at this level until the end of the season. Plus, having a strong defense is helpful. With Horford and Porzingis on the court at the same time, the Celtics have a 100.0 defensive rating in their double-double. They are a top-10 defensive rebounding club.
