San Francisco 49ers secured a playoff berth this week……..
This week, the San Francisco 49ers earned a spot in the playoffs, their fourth postseason trip in the previous five years. The 49ers are now atop the NFC playoff standings and are favorites to win home-field advantage, which would give them a favorable route to the Super Bowl if they continue their winning streak.
General manager John Lynch told Brian Murphy and Markus Boucher of Bay Area radio station KNBR on Friday morning, “It’s a big deal for a number of reasons.” “I know you enjoy watching your games at home, but we’ve proven to be a strong road team in recent years and we play well together when traveling.
So, even though we enjoy performing here at Levi’s, I don’t think that’s top of mind. I believe the simple answer is that you want the best track to the championship game, and we’ll take whatever necessary steps to get it. However, it’s a terrific thing when you can play two games and are already there.”
In the NFL, nothing comes easily. In the event that the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys falter, the 49ers need to close out the season with a bang. This coming weekend, they’ll play a road game against the Arizona Cardinals before returning home to play the Baltimore Ravens. The team will play the Washington Commanders on the road to end the season before playing the Los Angeles Rams at home.
But the 49ers’ focus is only on this weekend, and general manager Jim Mora offered a pertinent comparison for the team’s mindset going into Week 15.
Lynch stated, “We’re there now, but what matters is that we concentrate on each task, almost completely eliminate it from our minds, and recognize its benefits. However, you don’t search for the end of the tunnel. You simply keep excavating. And this week in Arizona, we have to work hard against a team that is winning and performing well.”
San Francisco is 4-0 against NFC West opponents and has dominated its division. This season, the 49ers have outscored their division rivals 124-68. What’s the key to the accomplishment? Lynch thinks there is a straightforward response to that query.
“I just think we have a good team, and we’ve got a really good team who works very hard,” Lynch said. “We’re coached extremely well, and when you have all those things … when you have the work ethic that so much of this team has, I think it’s about having not just the talent, but the right people, and the right character, and I think we have that.”
Lynch admits that in order to maintain their current success, the 49ers will require some luck. The team’s ability to stay healthy will be crucial to its success.
“Those are all challenges, but our guys take every challenge and face it head on,” Lynch went on to say. “I think Kyle Shanahan, our head coach, leads us in a really great way, and his offensive staff gives us a significant schematic advantage. The defensive staff, led by [defensive coordinator] Steve Wilks, is then doing an excellent job of positioning our players for success. I believe that when you combine all of those factors, we’re in a good place.
The idea that we never take any of these games for granted is another, in my opinion. We are aware that this is the NFL and that the opposition has some excellent players, so we know that we must compete hard every week. And this team, in my opinion, is known for that. We take great pride in the fact that we physically deliver it every week.”
