Row breaks out as snooker pair clash due too
Following a recent altercation with Andrew Pagett during a qualifying match, Barry Pinches vented his frustrations to Pagett in a long message on social media.
Barry Pinches, a seasoned snooker player, has taken aim at Andrew Pagett on social media following their altercation during their 6 Red World Championship qualification match.
In the end, Pinches prevailed 6-2, but he was incensed when Pagett seemed to doubt the validity of the cold he had and the fact that he had been coughing during their fight. Pinches vented on Facebook, writing, “To be honest, I’ve never been this enraged in my whole life.
“I have a cold right now. and had a lot of coughing during our match. ‘Do you know you didn’t cough once throughout those two breaks?’ Andrew Pagett asked me when we were down 2-0 and I made a pair of forty-odd breaks to almost tie the game.
‘What are you trying to convey, and do you realize how long I’ve been playing this game?’ I shot back. He added, “I don’t care how long you’ve been playing,” before I could say that I had never been brought up for any sort of unsportsmanlike behavior in 40 years.
“I had a discussion with our referee after the game and I asked him if I’d coughed while my opponent was on the shot and he confirmed that I hadn’t.” Then Pinches charged that Pagett had purposefully chalked his cue when he was trying to make a shot.
“I let it go, but Andrew Pagett chalked his cue while I was down on the shot, adding to the drama of the day before ‘coughgate,'” the player continued. “While I was down on the shot, he chalked his cue again a few minutes after our coughing altercation!
‘Don’t you ever chalk your cue when I am down on the shot,’ I snapped out of my initial enrage.’ Future opponents should exercise caution as I have noted his card regarding chalking his cue when I was down on the stroke.”
Eurosport reports that Pagett said his opponent “will be fined” for his behavior in a since-deleted tweet in response to Pinches’ accusations.
“This is the first time I’ve said anything about this,” he stated in his letter. “All I know is that he’s in the wrong and will be fined.”
