Roundup: Taylor Hall shines as the Bruins defeat the Wild 4-3 in overtime

Boston (AP) — On Saturday, Taylor Hall’s power-play goal at 4:49 in overtime helped the Boston Bruins defeat the Minnesota Wild 4-3.

After receiving a crossing feed from David Pastrnak, Hall, who also earned two assists, one-timed a shot past Marc-Andre Fleury.

With goals from Nick Foligno and Hampus Lindholm, as well as Pastrnak’s fourth of the year, the Bruins, under new coach Jim Montgomery, advanced to 5-1-0 and continued their winning streak at home.

With 4:31 remaining, Jared Spurgeon’s blast from the slot through traffic leveled the score at 3, thanks to Fleury’s 39 saves for the Wild. This kept Minnesota within striking distance during a lopsided second period and gave the Wild a chance in the third.

The Wild also had goals from Brandon Duhaime and Matt Boldy, while Mats Zuccarello provided two assists.

SHARKS 1, DEVILS 2,

NJ’S NEWARK (AP) — With goals from Dawson Mercer and Yegor Sharangovich in the second frame, the Devils won three games in a row.

The Devils, who have lost their opening two games in the season, were stopped by Mackenzie Blackwood 21 times.

San Jose’s Kevin Labanc scored, and Kaapo Kahkonen made 34 saves. Sharks’ record was 1–6-0.

KINGS 3, CAPITALS 4,

WASHINGTON (AP) — Late in regulation, Marcus Johansson scored on a wraparound to help Washington defeat Los Angeles.

A two-goal deficit was erased by goals from Nic Dowd and John Carlson, and Lars Eller gave Washington the lead. After Viktor Arvidsson, who had an assist on the first two goals for the Kings, tied the score once more, Johansson gave the Capitals a decisive lead with 5:25 remaining.

With three assists, Dmitry Orlov tied a career best, and Darcy Kuemper made 21 saves, two of which were crucial in the closing seconds. After losing its first two games, Washington has won three of its last four.

The Kings also had goals from Sean Durzi and Phillip Danault, and Jonathan Quick turned aside 28 of the shots he faced.

OILERS 0 and BLUES 2

Alberta’s Edmonton (AP) — Throughout their three games this season, St. Louis has remained undefeated thanks to 23 saves from Jordan Binnington.

The Blues, who have had a light schedule to begin the season, have had plenty of practice time thanks to goals from Torey Krug and Justin Faulk.

The Oilers, who began the season with a six-game homestand that included three losses and five wins, were led by Jack Campbell with 21 saves.

ISLANDERS 3, LIGHTNING 5, and

Tampa, Florida (AP) — Tampa Bay defeated New York with a goal and an assist from Brayden Point, and a thrilling second-period goal from Nicholas Paul.

Corey Perry, Alex Killorn, and Brandon Hagel all scored goals for Tampa Bay. Backup Brian Elliott tied Don Beaupre for 53rd place on the career chart with his 268th win after making 33 saves.

The Islanders’ goals came from Ryan Pulock, Anthony Beauvillier, and Matt Martin, and Ilya Sorokin made 21 saves.

5-STARS, 2-CANADIENS

MONTREAL (AP) — With three goals and an assist in the end, Joe Pavelski helped Dallas defeat Montreal.

For the Stars, Esa Lindell also scored and Jason Robertson added a goal and an assist. Roope Hinz and Jamie Benn both had two assists. With 29 saves, Jake Oettinger raised his record to 4-0-0.

For Montreal, Arber Xhekaj assisted Mike Hoffman in scoring his first NHL goal. 25 saves were made by Jake Allen.

JETS 1, MAPLE LEAFS 4,

Manitoba’s WINNIPEG (AP) — Toronto defeated Winnipeg because to two power-play goals from John Tavares and three assists from Auston Matthews.

Toronto also had goals from David Kampf and Michael Bunting as they began a five-game journey. This season, Ilya Samsonov is now 4-0-0 after making 31 saves.

The Jets’ Pierre-Luc Dubois scored, and Connor Hellebuyck made 24 saves.

Six Penguins, Three Blue Jackets

Ohio’s COLUMBUS (AP) — With his 79th career game-winning goal, Sidney Crosby helped Pittsburgh overturn a two-goal deficit and win its first away game of the year.

For the Penguins, Danton Heinen notched two goals, while Josh Archibald and Jan Rutta each contributed a goal and an assist. Brock McGinn also scored. Two more assists each were added by Crosby and Kasperi Kapanen. Pittsburgh won for the fourth time in five games and now sits atop the Metropolitan Division with nine points thanks to 29 saves from Tristan Jarry.

For Columbus, which has dropped four of its first six games, Boone Jenner scored, Jack Roslovic scored on a short-handed play, and Kent Johnson scored his first NHL goal. 33 shots were stopped by Elvis Merzlikins.

COYOTES 2, SENATORS 6,

Ontario’s Ottawa (AP) — After losing its first two games on the road, Ottawa won its third straight at home behind two goals from Brady Tkachuk.

The Senators also had goals from Josh Norris and Mark Kastelic, in addition to goals from Tyler Motte and Shane Pinto. Tim Stutzle, Jake Sanderson, and Drake Batherson each had two assists, and Anton Forsberg made 20 saves.

The Coyotes, who have dropped four of their last five games this season, were led in scoring by Dylan Guenther and Clayton Keller. Ultimately, Karel Vejmelka made 26 saves.
