Ronnie O’Sullivan withdrew from the Scottish Open late.
After Ronnie O’Sullivan abruptly withdrew from the Scottish Open, the player he was supposed to play in Edinburgh on Monday accused him of showing “disrespect.”
Only a few hours before he was due to take on 19-year-old Liam Graham in a first-round match in the capital of Scotland, the seven-time world champion withdrew from the competition, claiming medical concerns.
Graham told the Daily Record that O’Sullivan’s decision was made at an inappropriate time and that it was insulting.
It’s sad that so many individuals missed work to attend today’s event.
It makes sense considering what he does. When I arrived at the location this morning, I learned. I believe he left really late, so I didn’t have much notice.
O’Sullivan, who earlier this month captured his ninth UK championship in York, setting a record, has now pulled out of five of the eight ranking events this season—not counting the Snooker Shootout.
He withdrew from the Champion of Champions tournament in Bolton last month because he was “mentally feeling a bit drained and stressed.”
It happens at a time when the player and World Snooker Tour officials are at odds over his wish to be free to participate in lucrative exhibitions in China.

Following his last victory over Ding Junhui in York, O’Sullivan said that officials “seem to want me to hand my resignation in”; WST categorically refuted this assertion.
“At the end of the day I want to play the best players in the world and I was really looking forward to it,” said Graham, who is in his first season as a professional.
