Ronnie O’Sullivan finally reviews why he will leave snooker
According to Ronnie O’Sullivan, he just went back to snooker to get money for his kids’ school expenses.
He announced that this World Championship will be his final one on the eve of his Crucible semi-final matchup with Judd Trump.
The four-time winner takes on showman Trump today in a contest he is keen to win in order to go to another Sheffield final.
However, the 37-year-old, who has been out of the game for the majority of the past year, says he only went back because he needed the money to pay back his school fees.
He has pledged to give up because he believes snooker is unhealthy for him.
When asked if he planned to attend the World Championship in Sheffield the following year, O’Sullivan responded yesterday night, “I have no intention of coming back.”
“I promise not to let you see me if I find something better to do.
“I’ve always kept my cards close to the vest, but that’s no longer necessary.
“This is my swansong, my final farewell. I’m satisfied; I’m over.
“I can’t continue to subject myself to unhappiness.
“I wish I could just brush it off with a grin, but that’s not how things work for me. I wish I had the same disposition as the gamers that come here, smile, and have fun. I simply criticize myself excessively, which is unhealthy.
In the quarterfinals, O’Sullivan easily defeated Stuart Bingham 13–4, but in the three-day semi-final that comes before the two-day final, Trump ought to pose a serious challenge.
O’Sullivan declared, “I’ll be out there trying my nuts off.” “I’m a rival, and I detest defeat. I’ll battle till the end. I’ll have to be removed from the table by them.
“There could be three or five days left, and if I can’t make it through that, then something’s really wrong.”
The fact that it need not continue is the bright spot in the distance.
To be honest, I still owe the school money for my kids’ tuition since I haven’t paid for the past two or three terms, he said.
“I had no idea what would happen, but I’ve managed to make a small amount of money so that I can go ahead and pay for my two years of tuition now.
However, I don’t really believe I’m cut out for pool. This could be my final official big event.
“I’ll compete in those tournaments since I signed a deal with my sponsor to play in ten,”
However, O’Sullivan noted that those occasions may include low-key competitions and Legends Tour events, and emphasized.
Trump stated that he is not afraid of O’Sullivan and that their matchup is sure to be legendary, like to his 13–12 quarterfinal triumph against Shaun Murphy.
Trump remarked, “I’ve got a good record against Ronnie.” I aim to terrify him since I’ve defeated him more times than he has defeated me.
“I believe that people are merely afraid of the term. I want to be on the main stage. The name doesn’t frighten me.
This afternoon sees the beginning of O’Sullivan and Trump’s match, while this evening sees the beginning of Ricky Walden and Barry Hawkins’s, the inaugural Crucible semifinalists.
In the quarterfinals, Kent man Hawkins, 34, defeated former UK and Masters champion Ding Junhui 13-7, while Walden defeated Welsh qualifier Michael White, 21, 13-6.
