Concerns raised by Ronnie O’Sullivan over the “rowdy” environment at Alexandra Palace during the Masters have been dismissed by Shaun Murphy.
The seven-time world champion stated he doesn’t “really like the rowdiness” at the renowned London venue prior to his first round match against Ding Junhui on Monday, which is live on Eurosport and discovery+.

On the other hand, Murphy claimed that the energy the fans create at the Triple Crown event is what “makes this tournament so special” in remarks made following his comfortable 6-2 victory over Zhang Anda on Sunday night.

“I’m not sure that any of us have ever had the support that Ronnie gets,” Murphy stated in response to O’Sullivan’s comments in the Eurosport studio. I’m grateful for all of the support I receive, and every arena where we play always extends a warm welcome to me.”This crowd is quite polite. The fact that they are a touch rowdier than the typical UK audience adds to the uniqueness of this competition. It’s magic, and for the 16 players who are fortunate enough to be in the draw each year, there’s nowhere else you would be.

The Masters are quite different. The adage “anybody can beat anybody” is overused, but nevertheless holds true. Each and every one of these connections might be the last of an occasion.”
As the 2015 winner attempts to win a fourth Triple Crown in his career, Murphy has had an outstanding start to his Masters campaign. The 41-year-old also believes that spending a little more time on the practice table over the joyous holidays is paying dividends.
“Really pleased,” he said. Up until the end of last year, I performed fairly well; the final month of 2023 wasn’t that fantastic. I had the impression that I was playing too hard and wasn’t getting the desired outcomes.

Unlike me, who would usually put the cue down and not play, I’ve worked incredibly hard throughout the holiday season. Regardless of what else occurs this week, it’s quite satisfying to see that materialize at the crucial moment.”
