Ronnie O’Sullivan calls his dad ‘the Del Boy of porn….

Due to his father’s success in adult stores, seven-time world snooker champion Ronnie O’Sullivan has reminisced about how much he cherished his early years as the son of the “Del Boy of porn.”

Before embarking on a turbulent career as perhaps the greatest snooker player ever, Ronnie O’Sullivan was the pretender to a pornographic empire.

The seven-time world champion spent a significant portion of his teenage years in billiard rooms and took up a cue at an early age mostly due to the encouragement of his father, Ronnie Sr. However, O’Sullivan has recollected his upbringing as the son of the “Del Boy of porn,” which eventually helped him to international fame.

There were a ton of filthy mags and films in our garage. During a recent interview on BBC Radio’s Desert Island Discs, O’Sullivan remarked, “I wasn’t insulated to it. ‘Shakin’ Ted’ would come around, peddling the magazines, and my dad would be buying them from him.

“My dad would load up the car with videos and magazines, and I would get in and head up to the West End.” At the snooker clubs, I would be dropped off. I used to accompany him to Soho on occasion.

“Listen, that was a life experience, and I appreciated it. My father was acquainted with all of them. My father lived in the Soho district. In the porn game, he was the Del Boy. “Whatever you say, it was the greatest business in the world,” he declared.

In 1992, O’Sullivan’s life took a significant turn when his father was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Bruce Bryan, the driver of London mobster Charlie Kray’s chauffeur. His mother, Maria, was imprisoned for tax fraud four years later, and his family’s predicament worsened even though he was only sixteen years old at the time.

That essentially left O’Sullivan alone himself to take care of his 13-year-old younger sister, Danielle. In the midst of his new lifestyle of “drinking and partying,” he admitted to host Lauren Laverne that he “tried but couldn’t deal with it.”
