Trent Alexander-Arnold, a right-back for Liverpool, hopes to be a key midfield player for England in 2024.
The 25-year-old, who is currently listed as an England midfielder, is anticipated to start in that role in the forthcoming Wembley qualifying match against Malta. Despite Alexander-Arnold’s tremendous success at the club level, Gareth Southgate’s abundance of right-back options has restricted his number of international caps to 21.
He most notably demonstrated his midfield skills in a prior qualifier against Malta, with the goal of making a bigger impact in the forthcoming European Championship.
“There has been a newfound excitement for me since we spoke in the summer, me and the manager, about a midfield opportunity and to see if we could make it work,” said Alexander-Arnold.
But before all else, though, England needs to win the qualifying round to guarantee a top seed at Euro 2024. Getting a point against North Macedonia or Malta would guarantee first place.
