Larry Bird believes his 1985-86 Boston Celtics team would compete with anyone
During the Larry Bird era, the Boston Celtics of 1985–86 might have been the best team. Before making it to the NBA Finals, the squad finished the regular season with a record of 67-15 and lost just once in the postseason. The Boston Celtics won their third NBA championship in the 1980s after defeating the Houston Rockets in six games.
For a small celebration, Bird took a couple of the boys back to French Lick, Indiana, his hometown. In the end, Bill Walton left the small town with a memento and an unusual image of it.
With the Celtics, Bird won three NBA championships: in 1981, 1984, and 1986. He had only been in the NBA for two years when the Boston Celtics overcame the Houston Rockets to win his first championship. After the Celtics defeated the Lakers in 1984, he referred to them as “lucky.” But as Bird put it, that 1986 team was the genuine deal.
Bird stated that the ’86 squad could play with anyone in an interview conducted in 2009 by Magic Johnson, his nemesis. Johnson was the former great player for the Boston Celtics.
