NBA Rebounding Record Set by Witt Chamberlain
NBA Rebounding Record Set by Witt Chamberlain.
The Wilt Chamberlain records page on the official NBA website states, “It’s hard to believe that there will ever be another player capable of dominating as many statistical categories as the Big Dipper.”
The data supports it and makes it impossible to refute. In practically every category that Chamberlain set throughout his 14 years in the American Basketball League, he will undoubtedly remain unsurpassed until the end of time, the existence of human life on Earth, or the planet itself in the Universe.
One of the 2 meter, 16 centimeter giant’s most remarkable feats was set five and a half decades ago during his rookie season: fifty-five rebounds in a single game. To put things in perspective, during the NBA season of 2014–2015, DeAndre Jordan .
That evening, Chamberlain dominated the game even though his team lost to Bill Russell’s Boston Celtics, 129 to 132.
Indeed, the central theme of the Chamberlain versus. One of the greatest, if not the greatest, in the history of the NBA and professional basketball is Russell/Russell VS. Chamberlain. Experts say it was a duel between the group player (Russell) and the individualist (Chamberlain). The numbers and that evening lend credence to the idea.
In their 143 confrontations, Chamberlain has the better individual statistics: in those games, the “Goliath” averaged 28.7 points and 28.7 rebounds, while Russell averaged 14.5 and 23.7. The Celtics completely outclass and dominate Chamberlain’s teams (the Warriors, 76ers, and Lakers) in their matchup: 57 to 37 in regular season games and 29-20 in postseason play.
The results of the game on November 24, 1960, support the numbers: once more, Russell’s team outperformed Chamberlain’s, and the Big Dipper was superior.
“In that game where Wilt pulled down 55 rebounds, I had never seen Russell so furious. Recalling Harvey Pollack, Philadelphia’s renowned and legendary director of statistics, who passed away in June of this year, “Wilt dominated the parade, catching everything that was nearby.”
For the record, Russell scored 18 points and Chamberlain scored 34. The fact that they are the only players to ever achieve more than 50 rebounds in a single game is another amazing fact. By the way, according to the issue’s historical rating, they are ranked in 19 out of 20 positions.
After all, the basketball world would undoubtedly be haunted by the “Goliath” after he scored 100 points against the New York Knicks in March 1962.
But that’s a tale for another day. since each day is historic in its own right.
PS: Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell are obviously in the picture!
