A Memphis Grizzlies player is reportedly a trade target for the Boston Celtics.
The Memphis Grizzlies are just one of the many clubs to watch as the NBA trade deadline draws near. Even though Memphis is a playoff club when healthy, they are currently way out of the Western Conference race due to the season-ending injury to star player Ja Morant and multiple other ailments to key players.
Many now think that Memphis may use this year’s deadline to make changes in preparation for the return of Morant and other players to the starting lineup the following season. Xavier Tillman, a big man with the Memphis Grizzlies, was mentioned as a viable trade target for the Boston Celtics in a recent Bleacher Report piece by Dan Favale. Each team listed five possible trade targets.
Though this is Favale’s interpretation rather than fact-checked reportage regarding Boston’s interest in Tillman, there are a few indications that he might be moving. Tillman is scheduled to become a free agent at the end of this season, so the Grizzlies might decide not to sign him long-term.
Memphis may be able to recoup valuable assets if they decide they do not see themselves keeping Tillman on board by trading him to a contender for even a modest return. Memphis has a lot of decisions to make with an eye toward their hopes of contending again next season, so this is a crucial deadline for them.
