MASTERS SNOOKER 2024: JIMMY WHITE CLAIMS RONNIE O’SULLIVAN IS ‘GOING FOR 10 OF EACH OF THE TRIPLE CROWNS’

In a rematch of the historic UK Championship final from 2023, in which “The Rocket” won a record-breaking eighth championship, 30 years after his first victory as a 17-year-old, O’Sullivan will begin his Masters campaign on Monday against Ding Junhui.

Prior to the Masters, O’Sullivan told Eurosport in an interview that he wanted to win the competition for the first time in seven years.

The seven-time world champion said that taking home eight World Championships, eight UK Championships, and eight Masters trophies would be “nice to go 8, 8, 8 – the three eights.”
But O’Sullivan, 48, has far more ambitious plans, according to White, a close friend.
“He’s aiming for ten of each Triple Crown, he’s just not announcing it,” White said.

White emphasized that Ding will not be taken lightly by O’Sullivan, saying, “He’s got a tough match.” In the UK Championship final, Ding returned to his previous level.”
White mentioned the closeness between the two as he recalled the 2007 championship game, which The Rocket won 10-3, and O’Sullivan’s embrace with Ding. But when the game begins, he maintains, respect will be set aside.
“When they get out there tomorrow, they’ll be like two gladiators and he’s in Ronnie’s backyard,” White said.
