Masters 2024: The devious picture of Tyrone Boy steals the show
Ben Robinson’s first visit to Alexandra Palace was one he won’t soon forget.
For a nine-year-old Tyrone kid, it was his first visit to London’s Alexandra Palace, and it was a journey to remember.
On Sunday, Ben Robinson and his father Brian attended the last moments of the Masters tournament.
He saw Ronnie O’Sullivan, his favorite player, become the oldest champion in history.
But after seeing an inadvertent trick shot live on TV, he also astounded the audience and taught the pros a few things.
Ben was so pleased to see the black ball nestle in one pocket and miss another that he ignored high-five offers from English snooker player Shaun Murphy and Ireland’s Ken Doherty.
His father revealed that Ben had suggested that they go to Ally Pally during the halftime and watch some of the players try trick shots in an interview with BBC Radio Ulster’s Good Morning Ulster program.
Ben acknowledged that it “all worked a treat” but refuted any hidden agenda.
Ben claimed that even though Doherty had spoken with him before the show, being called to the table still surprised him.
“I was kind of shaking with nerves, I just thought: ‘I’ll hit the ball and hope for a wee bit of luck’,” Ben recalled.
The young man’s luck was in when the black ball glided out of the right corner pocket and into the
middle pocket on the left.
“I was really, really happy after that went in,” he said with a grin.
