sketch
That’s all we have to offer at the moment, but keep in mind that Sportscene will be airing on BBC Scotland TV starting at 19:15. It will feature highlights of today’s 1-1 draw between Aberdeen and Rangers as well as a recap of yesterday’s Premiership games.
The Scottish Cup fourth-round draw, which is when the elite teams enter the competition, will be featured on the show in the interim.
BBC One Scotland repeats Sportscene at 23:30.
I’ll see you shortly!
giggling about football
Off The Ball continues the channel’s coverage of Scottish football while Sportsound wraps things up on BBC Radio Scotland.
Today’s guest, journalist Gordon Waddell, will be joining Tam Cowan and Stuart Cosgrove at the beginning.
“Dons show they can compete in the championship”
FT: Rangers 1-0 Aberdeen
Miller Willie

Aberdeen will adopt the stance that they nearly won all three points, especially considering how they performed in the first half. They need to put on a longer-lasting performance of that caliber in the Viaplay Cup final. Aberdeen has a chance, and Miovski is a goal scorer who seizes opportunities.
How does that affect the cup final?
FT: Rangers 1-0 Aberdeen
This was, of course, a practice for Aberdeen vs. Rangers in the Viaplay Cup final on December 17.
Even though there is still a lot of football to be played between now and then, both teams can learn from today’s draw.
Rangers FT: Aberdeen 1-1 Rangers – Something is beginning to happen
Billy Dodds
Former Aberdeen and Rangers forward on BBC Sportsound
Although Rangers didn’t play their best, Clement can take solace in the fact that the team’s momentum is growing.
They are focused when they should be focused, in-depth when they should be in-depth, and technical when they should be tehnical. Even though it was arguably one of their worst games under him, he will be happy that they didn’t give up when trailing 1-0.
VAR controversy: Rangers 1-0 Aberdeen
Despite the announcement last week that the independent review panel of the Scottish FA determined that only three decisions in the first round of Premiership fixtures were incorrect, VAR is back in the spotlight.
Among them was a penalty kick that Aberdeen’s Bojan Miovski should not have been allowed to stand due to double hits.
Barry Robson, the manager of the Dons, was not pleased with Rangers’ equalizing penalty today, though.
Did you concur that there ought to have been a fine? Yes gets a thumbs up, no gets a thumbs down.
“This season is a long one.” – Clement: Rangers 1-0 Aberdeen
Because Connor Goldson’s shirt was pulled, Philippe Clement believes it was a clear penalty and commends his team’s response after falling behind.
“Everybody pushed until the last second to get this deserved point and even the three points and that’s the mentality I want to see,” he told BBC Scotland.
Clement continues, “I am totally not busy with that,” in reference to missing the opportunity to cut the deficit with Celtic to six points. Experience has taught me that the season is a marathon.”
Clement praises the Rangers’ response
FT: Rangers 1-0 Aberdeen
Rangers’ captain, Philippe Clement, believed his team deserved all three points.
“I’m not at all relieved—I’m more disappointed that you didn’t get three well-earned points,” the manager comments regarding the late equalizer to BBC Scotland.
“I didn’t enjoy the first ten to fifteen minutes. We know how busy this place can get, and we weren’t as observant during the duels.”
Clement felt that “the reaction was very good” when his team trailed.
“We took total domination of the game and we had by far the better chances,” he states.
“In the end, it is two points we lose because luck was not on our side.”
Dons didn’t do everything perfectly. Aberdeen 1-0 Rangers
Billy Dodds
Former Aberdeen and Rangers forward on BBC Sportsound
They didn’t seem to have it all figured out. I was quite impressed with their first half performance, as they got it pretty much right.
Regarding the statement that “you can’t play like that for 90 minutes” when playing a high press game, I’m not so sure. I can’t accept that as an explanation given how many substitutions you can make.
“We performed flawlessly.” – Robson
FT: Rangers 1-0 Aberdeen
Barry Robson feels “gutted” because he believed his team had a chance to win the three points.
The Aberdeen manager continues, “I thought we played really well in the first half—pressed, counter-pressed, and transitioned.” “I felt we were excellent.
But you can’t spend ninety minutes playing at that speed. We attempted to alter it slightly knowing that the Rangers would enter the contest.
There will be times when you will suffer because the Rangers have elite players on a large budget. I felt that we made all the right choices; it was just unfortunate that the choice ultimately worked against us.”
Robson’s’soft’ penalty award: Aberdeen vs. Rangers
Rangers and Aberdeen drew thanks to a “soft” penalty kick, according to Aberdeen manager Barry Robson, speaking to BBC Scotland.
He declares, “I think Rangers are smart.” “They’re telling us that blocking is also a foul because he’s been blocked.”
It’s a slight tug, but that’s the direction football is taking, and it’s not good. Though Goldson’s block of Polvara two minutes later shows that VAR was not ineffective, it has served its purpose. You must examine every detail.”
Rangers are eight behind the Dons in ninth place.
FT: Rangers 1-0 Aberdeen
Following their commendable draws with both Old Firm sides, Aberdeen is still in ninth place, level on points with Motherwell, who have the same goal differential but have scored one more goal.
With a game remaining, Rangers are now eight points behind leaders Celtic.
Tavernier’s lucky number thirteen
FT: Rangers 1-0 Aberdeen
James Tavernier has now scored 13 goals this season.
Alright, so it was just another penalty kick, but this highlights again how important the right-back is to Rangers.
“Lammers ought to win it” FT: Rangers 1-0 Aberdeen
Miller Willie
defender from Aberdeen’s past on BBC Sportsound
Miovski and Sokler, the two strikers, were extremely effective in the first half and caused a lot of problems for Rangers’ defense. However, Aberdeen didn’t get forward, so they were unable to test them in the second half. I’m not sure how Lammers failed to score in the interim to win the game.
Rangers’ FT should have been awarded a point: Aberdeen 1–1.
Billy Dodds
Former Aberdeen and Rangers forward on BBC Sportsound
Rangers most likely merited a point. They lacked that extra edge, but they still had opportunities. Both they and Philippe Clement will consider it a lost opportunity, but Aberdeen deserves full credit.
ENTIRE TIME Rangers 1-0 Aberdeen
Cheers and cries of “cheat” from the home fans greet the final whistle.
James Tavernier’s late penalty allows Rangers to escape with a point.
But because of that early Bojan Miovski, the visitors haven’t been able to capitalize on Celtic’s dropped points against Motherwell at home, which has kept them atop the standings.
Rangers’ Yellow Card Goldson defeats Aberdeen 1 to 1.
As Rangers keep up the pressure in search of a winner, Connor Goldson of Rangers receives a booking for pushing inside the Aberdeen penalty box.
Rangers 1-0 Aberdeen
Precious Sam Lammers.
When Rabbi Matondo finds the Dutchman by racing down the wing, Rangers should have the winner.
Though strong, the header finds its way straight into Kelle Roos’s arms as the goalkeeper.
Aberdeen 1-1 Rangers GOAL
Tavernier James
While Kelle Roos dives to his right, James Tavernier slots it straight down the middle.
In the hope that there is still time for a second goal, the Rangers captain seizes the ball and looks to start again.
