As Leeds United and the other contenders for promotion prepare for a hectic few weeks, we look at the schedules for the next six games.
We can now focus entirely on the Championship and Leeds United’s fight for promotion, as those annoying international breaks are finally over. Even though Daniel Farke’s team did not want to start the season with a 1-1 draw at Rotherham following their most recent layoff, United is still in a strong position in the Championship.
Those in charge Leicester City managed to increase their lead to ten points over the weekend, but Leeds managed to finish the weekend one point clear of the automatic promotion spots thanks to Ipswich Town’s loss to West Bromwich Albion. Southampton gave up a late equalizer to Leeds, ending any chance of overtaking the Whites.
Saints are currently one point behind Leeds, two spots behind West Brom in fifth, and Preston completing the top six. How do their forthcoming fixtures appear, then?
The next five games for each of the top six are shown below; these will get us to the Christmas fixtures. In addition, we have determined who has had the best run based on the league standings of their next opponents.
With the exception of Preston, who is in sixth place, Leicester and Ipswich have the easiest schedule, at least theoretically. Leeds is hoping that the outcome reflects this and that Southampton and West Brom’s attempts to unseat Farke’s team will be hindered.
