LeBron James, who became the first NBA player to score 40,000 points, pays tribute to Wilt Chamberlain.
Even though the Los Angeles Lakers fell short of the Denver Nuggets 124–114 on Saturday night, there were still some positive aspects of the game.
LeBron James of the Lakers scored his 40,000th point of the season in the second quarter, surpassing the record held by no other NBA player.
The incident spurred more discussion about James’s 39-year-old greatness, and the future Hall of Famer honored his accomplishment by imitating one of the most well-known sports photos ever taken.
James held up a piece of paper that had the date, March 2, 2024, and the number “40,000” on it.
It was clear that Wilt Chamberlain, the center for the Philadelphia Warriors, was alluding to his game-winning 100-point performance against the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962.
James has paved the way for NBA greatness, just as Chamberlain did 62 years ago. And like Chamberlain, James might not have finished writing history just yet.
