In 1987, Bill Laimbeer, Dennis Rodman, and the group dubbed the “Bad Boys” faced the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference and held everyone else accountable for their failure to secure a spot in the NBA Finals.

The Boston Celtics, led by Larry Bird, had won three titles in the previous ten years, and the Detroit Pistons were beginning to establish themselves as a serious contender in the Eastern Conference.

A berth in the championship round was at stake when they faced off in the 1987 conference finals. Things became heated in the early episodes of the series.

With a hard foul in Game 3, Laimbeer—possibly the most despised player in the NBA due to his cheap shot antics and dirty play—taken down Bird and was sent off. After Bird threw the ball at the Pistons center in retaliation, he was also thrown.
