Kendrick Perkins Isn’t Sure About The Celtics Playing The West Rivals.
With 25 games left in the regular season, the Celtics are the NBA’s most successful team (45-12), but Kendrick Perkins isn’t buying any Boston stock in the long run.
Since he first spoke into an ESPN microphone, Perkins has been on record expressing his numerous reservations about the Celtics, and that hasn’t changed. Though Boston has won most of its games against teams outside of the East this season, the former Boston center and 2008 NBA champion doesn’t think the Celtics are prepared to face any of the Western Conference heavyweights. That’s why, despite everything the C’s have done so far, Perkins won’t write them in as the title favorites.
When the Boston Celtics are compared to the Western Conference, I know that some people will comment, “They’re 13-6 against the West,” both online and in the real world. Perkins stated Monday on ESPN’s “NBA Today.” “To be honest, this is what I saw last time I saw them play. They were beating up teams from the elite Western Conference, like the Los Angeles Clippers and the Denver Nuggets.”
“I can’t disrespect how hard the Western Conference is on the side of the Eastern Conference,” Perkins continued. They will inevitably have to face their challenges. The Celtics aren’t even my favorite team to win it all.
Although it is reasonable to discount Boston’s 13-6 record when facing Western opponents, Perkins’ viewpoint is not exclusive to that viewpoint once the playoffs start. Should the Celtics be riding the wave of home-court advantage to a Finals appearance against either club or any other team in the West, then a two-point loss to the Nuggets and Clippers means absolutely nothing.
Boston can concentrate on securing the top seed in the East for the time being.
