Joe Dumars describes Larry Bird as a “savant on the court,” highlighting his incredible skill.
Dumars claimed that the Boston Garden was the hardest arena for him to play in because of Bird..
Larry Bird was recently shown the utmost respect by Detroit Pistons icon Joe Dumars, who said that Bird was a basketball whiz during his NBA career.
In the 1980s and early 1990s, Dumars and the Boston Celtics great faced off, with both players going on to have successful careers with illustrious teams.Even though both greats had retired 20 years ago, their names are still well-known in NBA circles today.
Joe Dumars recently talked about Bird’s exceptional basketball skills on the Dan Patrick Show.
“Let me tell you something, I was asked the other day what the hardest arena you had played in was. I said, “The Boston Garden.” When they questioned why, I replied, ‘Remember how amazing Bird and the Celtics were during their heyday,'” stated Dumars.
“You could not make a mistake with them, so it was nearly hard to go in there and beat them. Those guys made you pay if you turned your head or did not rotate at the appropriate moment. It was extremely difficult to travel to Boston and defeat a team led by Bird during his peak. “And it was Bird, he was a savant on the court, just a savant, he was two plays ahead on everything,” the Pistons star continued.
The remarks made by Dumars, who was ahead of his time, are in line with those of his contemporaries who faced Bird and attested to his magnificence.
The key reason why guys like Dallas Mavericks Luka Doncic are still likened to “Larry Legend” is because he was ahead of his time. In addition to being a superb individual player, Bird’s biggest contribution on the court came from encouraging and providing his teammates with a winning atmosphere in which they could flourish.
