Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown Score 56 Points Together to Create All-Star Game History for the Eastern Conference.
Defense was nonexistent, the Eastern Conference created history, and the 2024 NBA All-Star Game was marred by controversy over the MVP selection.
With a corner three, Jayson Tatum sunk the first bucket. His game-changing moment at the 2024 NBA All-Star Game set off a chain reaction of scoring that no amount of defense could stop.
At the half, the two teams had combined for 193 points, with the Eastern Conference leading the West 104-89.
And even though LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and company rallied in the third quarter to cut the deficit to twelve, the East rapidly extended their lead back into the twentys.
They were ahead 160–136 going into the fourth quarter. They won 211-186, making history as the first NBA All-Star team to score 200 points or more in the last 12 minutes of play.
Tatum, who is playing in his fifth All-Star Game and is starting in the game for the fourth consecutive year, finished with 20 points on 8/13 shooting, including 4/9 from beyond the arc. After a deceptive pass from Jaylen Brown, one of the three-pointers was made.
In addition, he recorded a steal, a block, three assists, and three rebounds. He only accrued 22 minutes, in case anyone was concerned.
Playing in the league’s premier exhibition game for the third time, Brown finished the game with 36 points, which was the second-highest total for the East, and eight rebounds, five of which came from the offensive glass. He played 22 minutes on the court and also disheveled three assists and snatched a steal.
MVP of the All-Star Game went to Damian Lillard, who led the East with 39 points and made 14 of 26 shots, including 11 of 23 from beyond the arc, while also dishing out six assists.
The audience at Gainbridge Fieldhouse booed that decision, believing that Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers should have received it instead. In the victory, the only player from the hosts finished with 32 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
