The Boston Celtics’ summer activity has been somewhat erratic this year. The Celtics were silent on the opening night of free agency while every other team was having success. Then, though, they went all out, dealing for Malcolm Brogdon and signing Danilo Gallinari.
Then, nothing happened as the weeks passed. The Celtics did not make any progress during the Summer League. At that point, word spread that Boston would be interested in making a trade for Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant, with Jaylen Brown serving as the deal’s probable focal point.
Jayson Tatum recently discussed his approach to dealing with trade rumors in an interview with presenter Justin Quinn on the Celtics Lab podcast. The Celtics player claimed that he is already accustomed to it and that most people who spread rumors do so merely to stir up conversation and conjecture.
We exist in this world, after all. “It always originates from an unidentified source,” Tatum informed Quinn. However, it always appears on ESPN, Twitter, or another platform, and is visible to everybody. Thus, it’s impossible to tell for sure what is true or false, but at least it encourages discussion, which is presumably the goal. They achieved their desired outcome from the agreement, which was for people to speculate and speak about it.
“You Drive Yourself Crazy,” said Tatum.
The internet, including Twitter, has developed into a central location for trade talks, rumors, and conjecture. Furthermore, the participants in those conversations frequently end up seeing all the noise. Tatum stated that he tries to manage what he can control and does his best not to trust all he sees.
You will drive yourself insane if you follow everything you see on TV or Twitter. Tatum remarked, “I think that’s just something you have to learn, just to keep your own sanity and peace.” “They’ll say anything they want, and some of it may be true, and some things are just so far from the truth that it doesn’t matter who says it; just keep your mouth shut and deal with what you can control.” I always try to live by that.
Tatum may not be the focus of any trade speculations this offseason, but he has experienced similar controversy in the past. Tatum was mentioned as a potential negotiating chip for Boston back when Anthony Davis was being courted in 2019.
Furthermore, Tatum has previously warned the media not to believe everything they see.
Tatum: “It’s Hard To Say”
Reporters met up with Tatum at the NYC Point Gods movie screening, where Durant served as an executive producer, and inquired about the reports. Tatum reiterated his advice to Quinn when he was questioned about whether or not Brown had been included in a possible trade package: don’t believe everything you see.
Until Durant is traded, trade speculations between the Celtics and the superstar are certain to persist. As Tatum stated, don’t believe everything you see, so buckle up, everyone.
