Before their teams’ Wednesday game, Detroit Pistons player Isaiah Stewart punched Drew Eubanks of the Phoenix Suns, leading to his arrest for assault. According to the police, Stewart, 22, was “issued a citation and released” while the event is still being looked into by detectives.
The athletes got into a fight in the Footprint Arena parking lot in Phoenix. In 18 minutes of action against the Pistons, Eubanks, 27, led the Suns to a 116-100 victory with six points and eight rebounds.
“Officers spoke to both players involved and a number of people who witnessed the incident,” said a police statement. “They learned there was an argument between both players as they arrived at the arena.
“When witnesses saw Stewart punch Eubanks, who was slightly hurt, they stated the confrontation became more heated. The altercation came to a stop when security separated the two men. “Detectives arrived to look at the occurrence and gather information. Stewart was given a citation after being detained for assault and released. The inquiry is still ongoing.”
The Suns released a statement saying, “The attack on Drew Eubanks was unprovoked and acts of violence such as this are unacceptable.” “We unequivocally support Drew and will continue to work with local law enforcement and the NBA.”
The Pistons also stated: “We are in the process of gathering information about what happened and what provoked it, and responding to the NBA and local authorities.”
