In honor of their anniversary, Steve Beaton said something that moved all of the fans. What a stunning pair.
We went to the Northend Bar in Bridge Street on Saturday night to attend a unique darts show that raised money for the North Louth Hospice. During the evening, twenty local dart players were pitted against none other than 1996 BDO World Champion Steve Beaton.
Steve, who was born in Coventry, was in excellent form as he faced the greatest players the Northend had to offer. He had also won the World Masters in 1993 and had gone on to win Opens in the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, and Sweden.
Not too long after entering, I ran into Distillery Lane’s Ruairà Lennon, who informed me he hadn’t packed his arrows and was only there to cheer on one of the top pros in the circuit and support the cause.
A little distance away, I spoke with Mervyn McCaffrey from Duiche Roden, who was armed and prepared to fight Steve, promising to give him a real run for his money.
As I made my way to a different table, I ran into Drogheda resident Robert Smith, who was accompanied by his mother Anne and girlfriend Danielle McAleer. He informed me that his mother, who plays out of The, is the one with her sights set on the prize.
Ollie Thompson, a Drogheda resident who was supporting Anne’s game and eager to see Steve in action as he plays for both The Punters in this town and The Marron in Drogheda, joined them.
As I made my way to a nearby table, I ran into Zilvinas Zelnys from Point Road, who was accompanied by Tatijana Zelniene, Noah Ramankas, and Gvido Kozlov from Red Barns Road. They were all there to support Zilvinas as he faced Steve and expressed his excitement for a double out before Mr. Beaton.
After that, I made my way to the bar, where I had the pleasure of running into two North Louth Hospice personnel. Enjoying the competition, Anne English from Anne Street and Bernie Neary from Louth Village wished to wish the contestants the best of luck and express their gratitude to Peter and Sheila, the event organizers, for all of their support.
Following this, I met two boys from Pearse Park who throw arrows for the Stags Head squad, Jack Riordan and James Callan, who were eager to get to the oche to take on Steve. Jack recalled that I had covered his 21st birthday celebration at Ridleys back in 1992 and that I was going to have an amazing time.
As I was making my way to the bar, I got a call from Ath Lethan to Donna Donaghy, who informed me that she was with her lover Kevin Rice, who was also planning to lash out at Steve later. She was conversing with Ashling Park’s Cian O’Rourke, who would be playing for the Byron Hawks.
