The HBO Lakers series from the 1980s has cast the ideal Larry Bird and more.
For its upcoming series on the Los Angeles Lakers during their legendary Showtime era in the 1980s, HBO is casting quickly, and some outstanding performers have already been confirmed. It just got even more intriguing when comedian and wordsmith Bo Burnham was cast as the “Hick from French Lick,” and there are more fantastic casting decisions to follow. Bo Burnham was chosen to play the legendary Boston Celtics player Larry Bird, which was maybe an unexpected pick.
Bo Burnham, who gained popularity as a stand-up comedian and YouTuber, has recently entered the acting world, landing parts in films such as Promising Young Woman and The Big Sick. He will now reportedly play for the Boston Celtics Hall of Famer Larry Bird, who was a significant opponent of Magic Johnson and the Lakers during one of the most illustrious periods in NBA history, according to Variety.
Bo Burnham is a significant addition to the HBO drama, but there have been other well-known faces recruited recently as well. Veteran of Freaks and Geeks and Muppets Jason Segal, who has recently veered away from comedies, also appeared on the show this week, albeit not as an NBA player for the Lakers or any other team. Instead, according to Deadline, Segal will play Paul Westhead, a former assistant coach who became the head coach of the Lakers and has a fascinating backstory.
After Jack McKinney was admitted to the hospital, Paul Westhead, who had previously worked as an assistant coach for the Lakers, was chosen interim head coach. In the end, he helped the Lakers win a championship in 1980, which launched the Showtime era. In his third season as coach, Westhead was finally fired, and his assistant, the legendary Pat Riley, who Adrian Brody will play in the television series, took his position.
Max Borenstein told Collider that the plot of this show may be compared to that of Netflix’s The Crown, which is what viewers and sports enthusiasts can anticipate from it. in particular, that the narrative is one of a dynasty team as seen through the prism of American society and all the grandeur that accompanies having a premier sports club. The series currently lacks a title and very little information is available on its main plot and timing. However, this is a show that has a genuine chance to challenge The Last Dance in terms of audience, considering the stature of HBO as a network and the talent that is associated.
