Following a buyout, a former Celtics forward signs with Thunder (report)
Mike Muscala, a former forward for the Boston Celtics, has identified and is familiar with his next NBA stop. The Thunder have signed Muscala for the remainder of the season, as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Before being dealt to the Pistons before the trade deadline, Muscala began the season with the Wizards. Muscala was free to join with any competitor after he accepted a buyout with Detroit. He landed with the Thunder in this manner. After being traded from the Wizards to the Pistons, Muscala was free to sign with the Celtics, but he made the decision to play for another team.
Muscala spent time in Oklahoma City from 2019 to 23 therefore he is well-versed in the city. He spent the remainder of the season with Boston after being traded to the C’s for a draft pick at the 2023 deadline. Last summer, Muscala was a part of the transaction that the Wizards made with Kristaps Porzingis. He is currently back with the Thunder, who are 41-18 and in the running for the Western Conference title.
Despite their many advantages, the Thunder were able to sign Muscala, a seasoned big man. It doesn’t hurt that he is somewhat acquainted with the company. Muscala has played in 37 games for Detroit and Washington this season, averaging 2.8 rebounds and 3.8 points. Despite having a difficult shooting season, his lifetime 3-point percentage is 37.6%.
