Purdy, who was selected with the seventh and last pick in the 2022 NFL draft, emerged as one of the most proficient quarterbacks in the league during the 2023 season. With 4,280 yards and 31 passing touchdowns, he led the league in QBR passer rating and vaulted himself into MVP contention.

Purdy’s primary understudy is named Sam Darnold. In the last four seasons, the 26-year-old has played for the Jets, Panthers, and 49ers. He made just one start during his rookie campaign in San Francisco: the regular-season finale, a 21-20 loss in which he completed 16 of 26 passes for 189 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions.
