Fabian Schar on the changes Eddie Howe made to Newcastle after Steve Bruce left?

Under Steve Bruce, Fabian Schar nearly left Newcastle, but he recovered and is now at his best under Eddie Howe.

Fabian Schar has given Eddie Howe credit for leading Newcastle United’s thrilling journey forward by bringing most of the players he inherited with him.

The center back for Switzerland has been a key component of Howe’s rebuilding efforts on Tyneside, but he is not the only one—under Howe, Newcastle players like Jamaal Lascelles, Sean Longstaff, Miguel Almiron, Joe Willock, Joelinton, and Callum Wilson have all reached their peak performance levels. The main group of players in the locker room when Howe entered in 2021 show no signs of leaving, even with another transfer window approaching and new targets being considered by Newcastle.

Schar stated: “It’s been a tale of growth from each and every person, not just the team. To be fair, we have had an amazing journey over the past three years.

“And everyone took the initiative. Regarding the squad’s unity, I’ve never experienced it before. It really is unbelievable. Simply put, I’m thrilled to be a part of it.

“Many other players experience the same thing. We simply strive to defend one another, and it’s wonderful to see how much better and more progress we have made in just three years.”

In less than two years, Howe led the team from the bottom of the table to the Champions League, and the 31-year-old defender has thanked him for his efforts. Schar believes that a sense of unity not seen at St. James’ Park in a long time has been ingrained by Howe and his coaching staff.

Schar continued, “The coaching and the way they assembled this group made it possible to get more from inherited players. We owe them our current sense of unity.

“If Eddie Howe and the club hadn’t brought him in, I wouldn’t be in this situation right now. I simply strive to return everything to them.”
