In the Eastern Conference, the Boston Celtics have a new worry.
This season, the Boston Celtics are the overwhelming favorites to win the Eastern Conference. By acquiring Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday in the summer, Brad Stevens has made sure that the Celtics are regarded as genuine title contenders. But the New York Knicks are quickly becoming a serious contender in the East, particularly in light of their busy January trades in which they added Bojan Bogdanovic, Alec Burks, and OG Anunoby.
All of a sudden, the East has another competitor. The Knicks are designed to resemble Tom Thibodeau. They have a solid foundation of tough, uncompromising defenders with a scattering of talented scorers at every position. A possible seven-game series between the Celtics and the Knicks is probably something the team would prefer to avoid, particularly if it means playing several games in Madison Square Garden.
In a recent installment of “Ticket and the Truth,” Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce talked about the Knicks’ unexpected ascent to prominence and the Los Angeles Lakers’ and Golden State Warriors’ downfall. The former champions of the Celtics also discussed the possibility that New York could surprise the Celtics and win the East this year.
