Duncan Robinson is targeted by Jaylen Brown following a contentious altercation.
On Monday, May 29, 2023, in Boston, during the second half of Game 7 of the NBA basketball Eastern Conference finals, Miami Heat forward Duncan Robinson, left, and Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown reach for a loose ball.
After a contentious altercation between the two during the fourth quarter of the Celtics’ victory against the Heat on Sunday afternoon, Jaylen Brown, a top player for the Celtics, called out Duncan Robinson, a guard for the Heat.
Early in the fourth quarter, when the two players fought for position during a Celtics possession, Brown was charged for a flagrant 1 foul. When Robinson tangled with Brown’s arm, Brown was called for a foul on the play, but in an attempt to free himself, Brown threw Robinson to the ground. Following a review of the footage, Brown was called for a flagrant 1 foul, and when the players got back on the floor, they again exchanged insults.
Following the match, the Celtics defeated the Heat 110-106, and Brown criticized Robinson’s theatrics.
In Miami, Brown assured reporters, “I’m fine with it.” For me, there was no problem. I believe that Robinson was well aware of his intended outcome. He didn’t want to play defense, so he was attempting to get entangled. I was merely trying to extricate my arm since he was still attempting to hang on even after they called a foul.
In response to a question regarding the Celtics’ history of fierce games against the Heat, Brown continued to criticize Boston’s adversary.
Miami has a reputation for being physical and for getting away with doing a lot of things that kind of screw up the game, according to Brown. “You have to own and defend your place at the end of the day. Duncan Robinson seemed to know exactly what he was doing when he tried to draw something or became twisted up. I’m not sure what he was attempting to accomplish, but you can bet he won’t do it again.
Following Miami’s defeat due to the altercation, Robinson retaliated against Brown as well.
According to Five Reasons Sports, Robinson stated, “To be honest with you, I just thought it was a dirty play.” People miss entire seasons in this way. In other words, knock on wood. Nonetheless, you have witnessed similar plays in the NBA’s past. Men get quite serious injuries from situations just like that. Thus, I simply believed it to be excessive, needless, and hazardous.
The Celtics will not play the Heat again in regular season after sweeping the season series 3-0. But if the two meet each other again in the postseason—which has happened in three of the previous four Eastern Conference playoffs—there probably will be an extra degree of tension.
