Delon Wright, who is reportedly joining the Heat instead of the Suns, is waived by the Wizards
After their recent trades, the Phoenix Suns still have one available roster place. One of the two positions left empty by the recent trade of Royce O’Neale will be filled by Thaddeus Young, while it is still unclear who will occupy the second. The Suns are searching the buyout market for a player who can elevate their club to the next level.
Washington Wizards combo guard Delon Wright was one contender who had not yet been bought out. I’ve been keeping an eye on him since I think his help would help the Suns fill a few positions on the roster.
As I said recently in a post about the players the Suns ought to target:
Wright is more physically built and athletic than Jordan Goodwin, but he can still have an effect on defense. Wright was second only behind Alex Caruso of the Bulls in terms of deflections per 36 minutes during the previous season. Additionally, when Wright was playing for the Wizards, Washington’s defense improved by 3.9 points for every 100 possessions.
The more tape I watch, the more I believe that this guy would be a fantastic addition to Phoenix. Although he attacks from both ends of the court, his three-point release is a tad slow. He have the maturity to carry out the necessary thinking. He is capable of locking down the main ball handler when playing defense.
On the offensive end, he does not turn the ball over. Because of his 3-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio throughout his career, you won’t lose any possessions when he’s on the floor. Being a proficient finisher and ball handler, he fulfills numerous requirements that any team would be pleased to have on their roster.
The Wizards want to proceed with buying out Delon Wright and his $8.1 million contract, according to a report published today by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. However, it seems like the Miami Heat, not the Phoenix Suns, will be the team he signs with.
Potential playing time could be a problem. Wright’s talent would undoubtedly put him in a position to contend for a rotation berth, but whoever occupies the final spot might not have the chance to play.
There’s always a possibility that things turn into a Terrence Ross scenario. Ross was said to be interested in joining the Dallas Mavericks following his waiver release from the Orlando Magic last season. But he changed his mind and joined the Suns.
