Reanne Evans acknowledges that there were conflicting feelings when she was paired with Ronnie O’Sullivan for the World Mixed Doubles since there is pressure to perform in front of the greatest player of all time.
Starting on September 24, the world’s top four male and female players will partner up for the new competition, which has undoubtedly resulted in some intriguing matches.
Although Judd Trump and Ng On Yee are partnered, Neil Robertson and Mink Nutcharut are teamed, and Mark Selby and Rebecca Kenna are partnered, Ronnie and Reanne are without a doubt the most well-known duo.
Though Evans acknowledges that there is pressure to perform well since she doesn’t want to let the Rocket down, it is evident that she was thrilled to be selected alongside the reigning world champion and number one.
Conflicting feelings, Evans discussed being teamed with O’Sullivan with WST. “In my opinion, you have the greatest player in the world—the best player to ever pick up a cue.” However, you also have to give a performance for him!
I’ve had the honor of playing against and with him in exhibitions and Snooker Legends; he’s a lovely man.
Since I’ve been there and done that, perhaps it will help me feel a little more at ease. obviously not in a legitimate match on TV, but I’m excited about it and hopefully he is too.
The team aspect of snooker is considerably different from a regular match and it did put pressure on Evans, regardless of who he was matched with.
“It’s a different mindset and pressure, you’re not just playing for yourself, like when I played league competitions with a team,” she said.
Normally, if I miss, I let myself down, but now I’ve let Ronnie and my team down as well. Emotions and tensions are mixed together. However, I’m looking forward to it because it has a great format and is intriguing.
It’s a coin flip, so all I can do is go out there and try to enjoy it as much as I can. Hopefully, we can win. It’s open to everybody, so I’m just excited about it.
The World Mixed Doubles will be place in Milton Keynes on September 24–25.
