For the holidays, Jill Biden has brought an ice rink to the White House lawn where kids can skate and play hockey.

In December, Jill Biden brought her “Magic, Wonder and Joy” Christmas theme to the White House grounds, where kids could skate and play hockey on the South Lawn ice rink.

“Who’s ready to skate?” she said following many ice skating routines by Olympic gold medallist Brian Boitano (1988) and Snoopy the comic strip dog, among others. She displayed decorations inside the executive house earlier this week, claiming they were meant to bring guests back to their childhood memories of the “magic, wonder, and joy” of the holidays.

The White House did not specify the days and hours that the 50-by-70-foot (15.2-by-21.3-meter) rink will be open in December. Children from families with members of the armed forces, frontline employees, first responders, and educators in the Washington, D.C., region are encouraged to skate.

The first lady recalled her childhood in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, skating on the frozen Delaware River canals with her sisters.

“Our cheeks turned pink from the cold as we glided over the shimmering ice for hours,” she remarked. “And during those hours, the ordinarily ordinary town and bridge were, you know, changed into a brilliant, shimmering environment that seemed to be coated in magic.

Children frequently view the world in this way at this time of year—with enchantment, wonder, and delight,” the speaker went on. There is nothing more enchanted, splendid, and exuberant than skating on the South Lawn of the White House. Who knew? Gazing out the window and witnessing things below is very amazing.

Boitano taunted her that he had an additional outfit in the dressing room in case she wanted to participate in the show as he took her off the ice.

“Why not?” Biden said, chuckling the entire time.

Boitano answered, “We could do a really good pair number.” After leaving the ice, the first lady sat in the front row of the crowd and covered her lap with a.

Through their “Learn to Play/Learn to Skate” initiative, which offers head-to-toe equipment, weekly sessions, and coaching to first-time players, the National Hockey League and the NHL Players Association will impart instruction.

There have been earlier rinks constructed on the White House property.

Olympian Peggy Fleming was scheduled to sing at White House Christmas festivities on the ice rink that President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter had erected on the South Lawn in 1980. Carter was laid to rest in her birthplace of Plains, Georgia, on Wednesday.

Comcast Spectacor, the National Park Foundation, and the National Park Service are among the other backers of the new rink.
