Chelsea wants to watch Christopher Nkunku play before giving the 23-year-old a new contract.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea is still hesitant to decide on Conor Gallagher’s possible new deal.

He informed his Substack that the Blues will decide whether or not to offer him a new contract after assessing the effects of some of their injured players.

Among the most impressive players at Stamford Bridge thus far this season, Gallagher has established himself as an indispensable member of the team’s expensive midfielders.

The club was eager to sell the 23-year-old as recently as the last transfer window because they wanted to cash in on several academy graduates to pay for their large purchases.

Phillips now asserts that his prospects may be determined by Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku’s performance when they return to action.

The bottom line, he stated, is that they and Pochettino will have to decide what the best course of action is for Gallagher moving forward and whether or not to conclude these most recent contract negotiations.

Chelsea delaying signing a deal with Gallagher
The club is eager to see what happens when Lavia and Nkunku return, which is one reason why there haven’t been any recent developments or discussions regarding the contract. Another reason is that it’s been a pivotal point in the season, and Gallagher has been focusing on playing a significant role.

The two players who have not yet made their Blues debuts are getting close to returning to first team practice, according to Mauricio Pochettino’s previous indications.

However, Gallagher has quickly become the manager’s favorite and it will take some strong performances for anyone to unseat him at this point.

Chelsea fans, on the other hand, will be especially thrilled to watch Nkunku play because they view him as the team’s most important addition to the attacking group.
