“FUXXD UP”: 48 hours following Michael Jordan’s former teammate’s disrespectful behavior,
Many youthful basketball enthusiasts have been educated about the NBA’s history during the past 48 hours. The beginning of it all was a video of Dennis Rodman insulting Larry Bird that had leaked again. It split the group instantly afterward, with some calling Bird one of the all-time greats and others agreeing with Rodman’s assessment. When seasoned players decide to get involved, the situation takes an intriguing turn.
Naturally, an 80s athlete discussion wouldn’t be complete without the insights of NBA veterans. Thus, the 66-year-old icon is now defended by another Boston Celtics star when the former Michael Jordan teammate manages to ignite a controversy that goes viral online.
Celtics great Larry Bird responds to remarks made by a teammate of Michael Jordan.
In the NBA, Larry Bird’s legacy is unchangeable. The 66-year-old was a member of the Celtics from 1979 to 1992. Bird had 12 All-Star appearances, two Finals MVPs, three NBA MVPs, and three NBA titles during his tenure in the league. Many people rank Bird, often known as the Hick from French Lick, as one of the all-time great basketball players.
In addition to his long list of accomplishments, Bird has a singular record that has never been surpassed. In the history of the league, Bird is the only player to have earned MVP in the league, All-Star MVP, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year.
Despite all his accolades, the Chicago Bulls star called him “overrated.”
This comment recently faced an outcry from fans, prompting a discussion about Bird’s career as an athlete. The latest to join this conversation is another Celtics legend, Kevin Garnett. KG won an NBA title with the Celtics in 2008 and was the league MVP in 2004.
He recently posted a clip of Bird’s heroics on IG stories, of Bird on the court. Along with the clip, he adds a lengthy caption defending the legend. Garnett wrote, “Pls don’t get FUXXD UP..MF LARRY LEGEND WAS LIKE THAT.”
Dennis Rodman’s rationale for considering Bird to be overrated
Rodman was and still is the epitome of the wild spirit. The Bulls star has consistently given the impression that he doesn’t really give a damn about what people think of him. Rodman had a certain something special about him that not many people were aware of from the start.
Thus, he changed the subject when he chose to make a statement about an all-time great. Rodman attributed Bird’s high compliments to the fact that “he is white.”
