Bruins lose to Calgary 3-2 in overtime.
The Bruins’ third consecutive trip to extra time did not go as planned in Calgary.
The Bruins entertained the Flames in a thrilling overtime match at the Saddledome on Thursday after defeating Dallas at home in a shootout on Monday and the Oilers in overtime on Wednesday. However, with 1:04 remaining in overtime, Nazem Kadri defeated Linus Ullmark with a wrist shot from the left circle, giving Calgary a 3-2 victory after the Bruins missed multiple opportunities to win, notably a Mason Lohrei effort that struck the crossbar.
As usual, the winner in overtime emerged from a spurned opportunity on the opposing end. In a 2-on-0 situation with Charlie McAvoy, David Pastrnak decided to shoot. After making the save, Flames goalkeeper Jacob Markstrom of Calgary started a 3-on-1. For the walk-off, Kadri maintained possession throughout and defeated Ullmark from low in the circle.
It was a difficult defeat given their opportunities for the game-winning goal in extra time and the lead goal in the third. However, given how the Bruins began the contest, it wasn’t a poor point gained—especially following such a demanding game on Wednesday in Edmonton.

“These points all add up. Charlie Coyle, who scored both goals for the Bruin squad, stated, “We want to make sure we rack up as many as we can, and sometimes you’ve got to grind your way to do that.” “It hurts a little not to get the full two points, but our effort wasn’t too bad overall.”
The Bruins were not good in the first period in which they fell behind 2-1. The Flames even gave them a gift late in the period, but the B’s gave it right back to them.
Calgary held a 16-8 shot advantage and a territorial edge that might have been greater than the shots indicated. Much like the first meeting at the Garden two weeks ago, the Flames won the majority of 50-50 battles and did a solid job of taking away the B’s space.
The Flames took the first lead of the game off the rush when defenseman Oliver Kylington, the trailer who was not picked up by any Bruin defender, beat Ullmark from the high slot to the glove side at 12:55.
The B’s got that one back.
Late in the period, Lohrei tried to connect with Brad Marchand on a stretch pass up the middle but it was just out of reach.
That one went back to the B’s.
Lohrei attempted a stretch pass up the middle late in the period, but Brad Marchand was just out of reach. This led to a race between Markstrom and Marchand, which Markstrom prevailed in. However, the goalie was well out of his position, and with 1:19 remaining in the period, the B’s center was able to blast it into the empty net after his clear attempt up the middle of the ice went straight to Coyle. That ended Coyle’s run of eight games without a goal.
However, the Bruins were unable to level the score at the half when they gave up another rebound goal forty-two seconds later. A puck that was sent on goal by Connor Zary resulted in a rebound.
