Breaking News:RONNIE O’SULLIVAN DISMISSES CRITICISM OVER SCOTTISH OPEN WITHDRAWAL…
At the Barbican Centre in York earlier in December, Ronnie O’Sullivan won the UK Championship for the eighth time, further solidifying his already illustrious reputation. The 48-year-old made the decision to skip Meadowbank’s Scottish Open due to health concerns. He refuted rumors that he withdrew from the Scottish Open too late, telling Eurosport he was fully recovered from the UK Championship.
After a demanding UK Championship, Ronnie O’Sullivan claims he is fully recovered and denies rumors that he abruptly withdrew from the Scottish Open.
Beginning in December, O’Sullivan won a record-breaking eighth UK Championship.
Even though he wasn’t playing at his peak at York’s Barbican Centre, he managed to prevail and showed some of his best play to defeat Ding Junhui in the championship match.
O’Sullivan has had to miss competitions this season due to illness, but he stated he wouldn’t think twice about withdrawing if he thought it would negatively affect his mental state.
O’Sullivan decided not to play in the Scottish Open following a demanding time in York, but he did travel to Edinburgh on Friday to begin punditry work for Eurosport.
In the Eurosport studio, O’Sullivan stated, “I am feeling alright.” I was not quite ready to come and play here at the Scottish Open, which is really disappointing because I love this tournament, this city, and this venue. However, I have recovered from the UK Championship, which was a difficult tournament and took a lot out of me.
There was some controversy surrounding O’Sullivan’s withdrawal; Liam Graham, his first-round opponent, took issue with the world No. 1 for doing so.
Graham told the Daily Record, “It’s not right, what he did is disrespectful.” “It’s disappointing that so many people took time off work to watch today.”Ultimately, my goal is to compete against the world’s top players, and I was eager to do so. Many of my guests came to watch, and they are quite disappointed. It makes sense considering what he does. When I arrived at the location this morning, I learned. I believe he left rather late, so I didn’t have much notice.
“Everyone who traveled to see me would have come another day, and I would have stayed at home.”
O’Sullivan disagreed, stating he withdrew the night before because he wouldn’t disrespect the occasion by canceling on the day of play.
O’Sullivan declared, “I did pull out on Sunday night, contrary to what everyone has said.” “I didn’t wait until the last minute, as many people seemed to believe, because I wouldn’t do that.”
