With a 5-3 victory over Tom Ford on Friday night at the Meadowbank Sports Centre, John Higgins fought his way into the Scottish Open semi-finals and is now just two wins away from taking home the championship. Higgins is determined to give it his all this weekend in Edinburgh even though he has never won the Scottish Open and has lost twice in the finals.
John Higgins has acknowledged that being in the shadow of fellow class of 92 graduate Ronnie O’Sullivan can be difficult.
The current world No. 1 O’Sullivan proved he still had it when he won the UK Championship for the eighth time earlier in December.
Mark Williams, a Welshman who won the British Open earlier in the season, is the third member of the legendary Class of 92.
Higgins has only won championships at the Championship League in the last two seasons, and he has also experienced heartbreaking finals defeats.
Higgins has the opportunity to win a ranking title at the home Scottish Open. On Friday night, he defeated Tom Ford to advance to the semi-finals.
Higgins, who was beside the Scot serving as a pundit for Eurosport, acknowledged that it was difficult to be compared to O’Sullivan despite the scrappy performance.
Higgins told Eurosport, “It’s that we are in the era you (O’Sullivan) are in and you are still winning the big events.” “You are up against this guy in the same age group, he is a one-off, so it is difficult, but I still believe I am doing okay for who I am,” the 48-year-old said. “I am getting judged on that, and if he is not around and I am still playing to this level at 48 people would be saying it is a remarkable achievement.”
Wilson is confused because, despite winning, his “yips” contributed to a “completely useless” performance. O’Connor Higgins is aiming to win just a second ranking title domestically. He has never won the Scottish Open and only has two finals losses on his record.
“I believe I have only ever won one competition in Scotland, which was the Grand Prix in 2008,” Higgins remarked. Thus, it would be incredible to try and succeed here.I’ve lost to Tom a few times, and he’s become such a better player, so this was a huge victory for me. His head no longer moves as freely as it once did. It’s a huge victory for me because he is an elite player.
