Breaking News;Cowboys dodging major bullet vs Bills in Week 15….
Immediately upon discovering that the Cowboys would be facing the Bills in Buffalo this season, it was evident that the last minute details of the game would be crucial. A Buffalo game in September would be very different from a Buffalo game in December, held in one of the league’s northernmost outdoor stadiums.
Because Buffalo is the NFL’s snowiest city, an NFL schedule makers’ opportunity to schedule a late-season matchup with America’s Team may present itself. Therefore, it should have come as no surprise when the Cowboys’ 2023 schedule was revealed—they were playing one of the best teams in the AFC in their snowiest month of the year, on a date with destiny.
The Cowboys will visit Buffalo to play the Bills for the first time in eight years. Unbelievably, the Cowboys also played the Bills in December eight years prior. That day’s temperatures hovered around freezing, with mostly clear skies throughout the competition despite some morning rain. Schedule creators were not granted their wish to see the Cowboys in the snow on that particular day, and projections indicate that they will not be granted it in 2023 either.
Even though there’s a good chance of precipitation right now, the temperatures virtually guarantee that Week 15 won’t see Jack Frost. In football, bad weather can be a cruel equalizer, so if your team is superior, you want to stay out of the bad weather. Teams that play best on fast surfaces and in neutral weather, like Dallas, typically struggle in sub-zero temperatures and all of their associated conditions (sleet, snow, frozen ground, etc.). The Cowboys seem to have escaped a serious blow this time.
Dak Prescott and his team will still have to deal with bad weather because there is now a major chance of rain throughout the day. Forecasts indicate that there will be 90% chance of rain in the area and about a quarter of an inch of total precipitation.
The field won’t freeze because of the mid-40s temperatures. What’s more, it keeps snow and sleet off the table. Even though the ball will be slicker than usual, it’s a significant victory for a Buffalo game that is scheduled for the middle of December.
