Bobby Clark made a significant advancement toward a full recovery at the AXA Training Centre, putting him in position to play his first senior minutes of the year.
The midfield player’s last game was seven weeks ago, in a 4-2 U21s victory over Crystal Palace. He has been out since the beginning of October due to an undisclosed injury.
At the Crystal Palace Training Ground, Clark helped Paul Glatzel lead the young Reds to victory after they fell behind. However, Clark hasn’t played for Barry Lewtas’ team since.
The 18-year-old recently posted a picture of himself on Instagram while working out in his football boots. He’s hoping that his most recent development will get him closer to returning to the field.
Bobby Clark, 18, is getting nearer.
Naturally, he wants to return to the Liverpool U21 team, but in the near future, he might have even higher goals in mind.
Despite his youth, Clark’s inclusion on List A of Liverpool’s Europa League squad for the 2023–24 group stage demonstrated the high regard the team has for him.
Although the teenager hasn’t played for the senior team yet this year, Jurgen Klopp recently hinted that a call-up might not be too far off.
In recent months, Klopp has rotated his team in the League Cup and Europa League utilizing the depth of his roster. He acknowledged that injury might have been the only thing keeping him out of the starting lineup for Toulouse’s 5-1 thumping last month.
“If Ben Doak would have been available tonight he would have got minutes, like Bobby Clark probably would have got minutes,” the manager stated in a statement following that game.
It suggests that if Clark can return to full fitness, a chance to play for the first team might not be far off, and the Reds’ upcoming schedule might make that possible.
In Group E of the Europa League, Liverpool’s remaining matches are against LASK and Union SG. Should top spot in the former match already be assured, Liverpool will be hoping that the latter matchup ends in a draw.
December also brings a quarterfinal matchup with West Ham in the League Cup, where Clark made his team debut against Derby the previous year.
He has so far missed three Europa League games and the League Cup trip to Bournemouth due to injury, but both competitions may present chances for him to play in the upcoming days and weeks.
