Al Horford discusses the frontcourt addition of the Boston Celtics at the trade deadline.
Al Horford was all smiles following the Boston Celtics’ 116-102 victory over the New York Knicks on February 24 at MSG. The Cs had acquired Xavier Tillman during the trade deadline.
“Having X around has been beneficial,” Horford remarked (via MassLive). He will undoubtedly get his opportunities here sooner rather than later. But just someone whose eagerness to learn is evident. He started probing my brain right away, asking a lot of questions and making a sincere effort to solve problems both on and off the field. And I think it will be helpful when you have that kind of thinking.
He has the potential to have an impact on our group since he is the type of man who wants to improve and make a difference.
The cohesiveness and chemistry of the Boston Celtics roster is excellent.
This season, Joe Mazzulla’s players have shown remarkable buy-in. Horford, the seasoned veteran who has accomplished nearly everything except win an NBA title, is taking on the role of the essential veteran by mentoring the 25-year-old and praising him in public.
After Tillman made his Celtics debut on February 22, fellow big Luke Kornet also had nothing but positive things to say about the arrival. Kornet helped to diffuse the narrative around the competition.
In the postgame locker room on February 22, Kornet stated, “To be honest, I am not really concerned about (Tillman creating a backup big man competition) at all” (h/t MassLive). “We are thrilled to have Xavier join us, and I believe he brings something special to the team, particularly with his versatility in the postseason and other things I think are very significant. We’re glad to have him on the team and look forward to working with him. I appreciate the aspect he offers to our group.”
It isn’t even worth it right now to doubt the future. For Boston, everything is falling into place, and if this trend keeps up, as it has, even in a 2008-esque manner, there’s no need to release any non-Banner 18 energy till later.
