Says He’s the Best Player in the NBA Right Now: Jayson Tatum is prepared to challenge for the title of NBA great.

When Mallika Andrews asked Jayson Tatum who he thought was the best player in the NBA, he sat down with the reporter and told her straight out that he thought he was the best.

“I, myself. Many guys in the league gave me a lot of respect. Undoubtedly Giannis, Jokic, and Embiid. The league is in fantastic shape, and the list goes on. I genuinely think I’m the top player every night when I get onto the court.”

This season, Tatum is averaging 27.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 4.8 assists for the NBA’s top squad. With a 43-12 record, the Celtics could be the most formidable team in the Eastern Conference. They lead the No. 2 seed Cleveland Cavaliers by a significant margin in the rankings, and many are wondering why Tatum isn’t being considered for the MVP award.

Tatum leads the MVP race ahead of players like Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, according to Stephen A. Smith’s recent declaration. However, it is incredibly simplistic to declare the best player on the best team the best player in the NBA. Tatum is not as important to Shai and Jokic’s teams as he is, and I would even rank Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic higher than Tatum in terms of MVP.

Draymond Green Thinks Jayson Tatum Won’t Be Named MVP Unless He Takes Home A Championship
On his podcast, Draymond Green recently complimented Tatum on his performance thus far this season. He further asserted that because of all the early success Tatum has had in the NBA, the league has been spoilt and he probably won’t earn an MVP until he wins a championship.

“They’re having MVP talks, and until JT wins his first title, I don’t think he will earn his first MVP. It’s almost like he’s being punished for enjoying such early professional success as a team. I believe that throughout his first five years, he made it to the Conference Finals or something.”

Green has raised an excellent point. Since his first year, Tatum has consistently played in the postseason. Tatum is one of the reasons the Celtics have been contending for titles every season, even if it hasn’t hurt to have been picked as a ready-made contender. Simultaneously, he has been a major contributor to the Celtics’ poor performance in the past three postseasons.

In terms of his playoff victories and statistics, Tatum has amazing overall numbers, but it’s undeniable that the Celtics have been competitive even when Tatum plays poorly. Because of the probably best squad in the NBA surrounding him, JT has a lot more leeway to make mistakes.

Still, there’s no denying that he’s currently the NBA’s top two-way wing. His ability to score is among the finest in the league, and he has an advantage over many of his opponents due to his defensive steadiness.

Tatum may not receive an MVP until he wins a championship, but all players ought to strive for a championship rather than an MVP. It’s fortunate that Tatum plays for the top club in the NBA if winning a championship is what he needs to do. If he’s that good, he will undoubtedly win a championship for Boston this season and become the NBA’s greatest player.
