Breaking News;Boston College gets past St. John’s in seesaw second half….

December 11 – At the NABC Brooklyn Showcase in New York on Sunday, Boston College defeated St. John’s 86-80, using the last few minutes of the game to overcome a 10-point deficit led by Claudell Harris Jr.

 

Quinten Post finished with a career-high nine assists, 11 rebounds, and 14 points, almost achieving a triple-double. Post did not attempt a shot in the last fifteen or more minutes of play and only managed one point after halftime.

The Eagles (8-3) outscored St. John’s 44-28 in the last 14:55 seconds, shooting 56.4 percent with 21 layups and dunks from Jaeden Zackery and Chas Kelley III.

Joel Soriano finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds, but the Red Storm (6-3) lost their fourth straight game and shot just 3-of-14 in the last eight and a half.

St. John’s shot 40.3 percent and lost despite grabbing 20 offensive rebounds, even though Chris Ledlum finished with 16 points and 11 boards. Jordan Dingle, Daniss Jenkins, and Glenn Taylor Jr. each finished with 10 points.

The teams scored 50 points in the paint in the first half, with Kelley’s basket giving the Eagles a six-point advantage with 3:03 left. Taylor’s layup with 44 seconds left gave them a 38-36 lead.

Early in the second quarter, Soriano’s layup, dunk, and hook shot in 71 seconds gave the Red Storm a 44-42 lead. When Dingle stole an inbounds pass and made a three-point play, the run reached 12-0.

At 14:55 left in the half, Soriano finished a 14-0 run with his second dunk of the half, giving the team a 52-42 lead.

With 11:48 left, Mason Madsen’s three-pointer gave Boston College a 55-54 lead. Boston College responded with eight straight points and a 13-2 run. With 10:22 left, Prince Aligbe’s dunk gave the Eagles a 61-56 lead.

With 7:56 remaining, two free throws by Soriano gave St. John’s a 66-61 lead. However, the Eagles responded with eight consecutive baskets, and Kelley’s layup with 6:20 left put them ahead 68-66.

With 4:25 left, Soriano’s layup gave the Eagles a one-point lead, which they stubbornly held onto before eventually pulling away.
