Breaking News;Michigan races away to 90-80 win over Iowa…….

December 11 – On Sunday in Iowa City, Iowa, visiting Michigan defeated Iowa 90-80 in the Big Ten to restart their season with a career-high 19 points from Tarris Reed Jr.

Iowa (5-5, 0-2) dropped its third straight game, while Michigan (5-5, 1-1 Big Ten) ended a three-game losing streak. On their home field, the Hawkeyes had not lost in five games.

The 6-foot-10 sophomore Reed led six Wolverines in double-figure scoring with his dominating 7-of-10 field goal and 5-of-7 free-throw shooting inside the arc.

Olivier Nkamhoua scored ten rebounds and added twelve points for a double-double. The Wolverines got 13 points from Terrance Williams II, 11 from Dug McDaniel, and 10 from sixth man Will Tschetter in addition to Nimari Burnett’s 14 points.

With 16 minutes remaining, McDaniel, who came into the game averaging 19.4 points per game, finally scored his first basket on a driving layup.

Ben Krikke, a graduate transfer forward from Valparaiso, of Iowa, led the team in scoring with 24 points. For Iowa, Tony Perkins scored 19, Patrick McCaffery and Payton Sandfort each had ten.

Michigan led 35-33 at the half, but the Wolverines took command with an 11-0 run early in the second half after letting the Hawkeyes take a two-point lead.

Both teams put a lot of effort into getting back in transition to stop the other’s potent offenses, and neither team had a lead of more than five points at any point during the first half. Michigan had an average of 81.2 points per game going into the game, while Iowa had 85.3.

With 12:25 left in the game, Hawkeyes head coach Fran McCaffery was ejected from Iowa for the fifth time in his 14-year career after his team trailed by 20 points at 62-42. He had drawn his second technical foul.

A 1-5 run that included three straight losses to Texas Tech, Oregon, and Indiana was broken by Michigan. Prior to their loss on Sunday, Iowa had losses to Iowa State and Purdue.

For the tenth game in a row, Michigan’s head coach Juwan Howard led the Wolverines from the bench while interim head coach Phil Martelli made the successful transition back to coaching following heart surgery in September.
